bnpparibas.com →Nicolas Petitjean is a payment and product leader with 22 years of experience, including 14 years building and scaling payments products, teams, and standards at BNP Paribas and Swift. He has taken products from concept to global adoption, built and mentored the teams that delivered them, and secured the board approvals that got them there.
At Swift, as Senior Product Manager, he owned the vision and strategic roadmap for the Pre-validation API, co-creating it with Tier-1 Banks, Central Banks, Payment Networks, and Fintechs, and scaling it from zero to over 1 million monthly transactions and 200+ live customers within three years.
His domain expertise spans cross-border payments, real-time payments (including SEPA Instant, Faster Payments, and South Korea's HOFINET), open banking, and ISO 20022. He represented Swift in the European Payments Council's Verification of Payee work block and led the submission of the first API standard published under ISO 20022 in April 2026.
Cross-functional partnership with Engineering, Architecture, Cybersecurity, Risk & Compliance, Commercial teams, and Executive Leadership is central to how he delivers products that are secure and compliant by design, not retrofitted. He built stakeholder alignment ahead of board meetings by engaging board members directly, then wrote the board paper that secured executive sign-off and unlocked €3M in investment for a sensitive data privacy / machine learning initiative.
At BNP Paribas, Nicolas built and led a team of 10 Product Managers overseeing a €10M annual product portfolio, delivering 200–300 projects a year across 52 countries and embedding customer insights directly into product decisions. He discontinued underperforming products to cut annual costs by over €500K and ran a change program across a 150-person product organization using Kotter's 8-Stage Framework to shorten time to market and sharpen product-customer alignment.
An INSEAD Global Executive MBA graduate with an MSc in Electrical Engineering, Nicolas is now seeking a Vice President, Product role where he can bring that same product leadership, data-driven decision making, team-building, and board-level influence to a global payments platform.
